I feel it is necessary to write this article to warn you guys of a fairly new internet trend that has started. This trend consists of low-quality cheap web hosting providers selling their hosting plans for incredibly cheap rates. That sounds good, right? Well it’s not. Because they lower their rates, they also lower their service, and they completely overhaul their servers by putting far too many people on the same server (sometimes up to 500 accounts or more on the same shared server). So, always remember: when it comes to cheap web hosting, price isn’t everything!
Yes, it is CHEAP web hosting, so it should be fairly cheap, but at some point you just have to draw the line. I have seen hosting plans being sold for as little as $1 per month, while the cheapest price I’ve seen for quality hosting was around $4. Anything under $3.50/month or so should raise some serious suspicions for you. Ask yourself – WHY are they so cheap? What do they skimp on in order to be able to afford such low rates? It has to be something!
The majority of the time these providers have servers that are slow loading (that’s if they are loading at all!) and they are usually filed with illegal content, warez, malicious sites, and porn. Since you’re on a shared server (as with any cheap web hosting plan), you are considered (at least by Google) to be in league with the other site owners on your server. So, in Googles eyes, YOU own those warez sites, those malicious sites, etc. You may not think that matters, but if you know anything about SEO you should know that Google can, and will, penalize you for the other sites on your same IP address.
Do yourself a favor and spring the extra few bucks a month to get some real quality cheap web hosting!
