Have you ever wanted to run your own site that is similar to youtube? Who wouldn’t? The gentleman who first envisioned youtube made off with millions of dollars and millions more in stock incentives when they sold the web property to google October of 2006. Many people wish to host their video site with a company that offers cheap web hosting. However, cheap web hosting for a video site is not all that it is cracked up to be. There is a lot that you have to worry about when you are creating your site and learning how to host a video site. Here are some things you need to consider when you create your video site;

-You will need a lot (and we mean a lot, of space). Sometimes people underestimate exactly how much space a video can take up. Many cheap web hosting company’s do not offer enough space to deal with your videos. Your average music video that is 4 minutes long can take up as much as 50 megabytes. To keep this in perspective, youtube allows users to upload videos that are up to 10 minutes in length. That means these videos can be well over 100 MB. You may need to look beyond cheap web hosting toward more specialized options.
-Look for a host that specializes in video sites. There are many different cheap web hosts that specialize in video sites. Because video sites are looking for a specialized set of features, these video hosts focus solely on those features and are usually able to offer you quite a bit of webspace at a big discount.
-What kind of video site will you make? Why would your users choose you over youtube? These are questions that you need to ask yourself. You may have an easier time making a niche video site, such as a baseball video site, or a horse video site, than you would trying to create a generally video site and convincing users to use your service over youtube, where their videos will get a lot more notice.

If you are interested in hosting a forum, you should be looking for cheap web hosting and there are a number of options available to you. Here are a few things you need to consider when you are researching how to host a forum with a cheap web hosting company;

-What kind of web hosting do I want? Cheap Web hosting is your first step when it comes to hosting a forum. You will definitely need a cheap web host unless you plan on using one of the free options available to you. Try looking for the hosts that support not only the latest version of PHP, but the latest version of MySQL.

-What type of forum software do I want to use? There are many different forum software solutions available to you. I would recommend starting off with phpBB, as it is free and simplistic in nature. When you would like to upgrade, look into vBulletin.

-Do I know what kind of forum I want to start? Starting a forum can be hard work. It is important that you pick a topic you are interested in, and will be able to talk about long term. Most large forums require daily maintenance to keep them running. Make sure the topic of your forum is one you won’t mind being around for years to come.

Starting a forum can be a blast, but learning how to host a forum in the beginning is the hard part. Try to find yourself some cheap web hosting. Just make sure that you research thoroughly so the setup process can be as quick and painless as possible. If you have no experience maintaining databases, you may want to outsource that to someone who knows their way around them and has experience with them.

-Look into cheap web hosting. Shared hosting is when the web server in which your site is hosted on is shared with other webmasters’ websites. This has its pro’s and con’s. The upside is that the cheap web hosting is fairly inexpensive, since there are so many people on each and every server. However, this also means that the server will more than likely face a fair amount of downtime. This means that the visitors to your site will not be able to access during these periods, and will instead receive an error message.

-Download Wordpress. Wordpress is the most popular blogging software in the world. Once you have purchased cheap web hosting, which is one of the first steps to becomming a webmaster, you must set it up. This shouldn’t be too hard, especially if you have had some experience with hosting in the past. Even if you haven’t, you can follow this guide and have everything set up in less than an hour.

Now most cheap web hosting plans come already set up for the most part. There are some things that you have to do in order to get everything working, but unlike dedicated servers, there isn’t much you have to do to cheap web hosting to make it work. The first thing you should do is upload some files through an FTP client, and make sure it’s visible on the Internet (NOT locally). If that works, move on to nameservers. If it doesn’t, contact your host and ask them to troubleshoot.

Nameservers are easy to set, but most hosts don’t give instructions for them, so some people get confused. Basically all you need to do is log onto your domain registrars site, and look for the “my domains” section or something similar. Once there, go to each individual domain that you plan on using, and enter the nameservers your cheap web hosting provider gave you. After that, wait 48 hours, and then try to go to your domain through a browser. If your files come up (the ones you uploaded through an FTP client), everything is right. If there is nothing there or an error message, you’ve done something wrong. Note – if your host is also your registrar (you bought your domains through your host), you will not need to set nameservers as they will already be set.

Blogs, otherwise known as weblogs, are a great way to share your opinion. Millions of people have blogs, and if you want to join them, it’s not too hard. All you really need is an idea for the topic of your blog, a domain name, and some money to buy hosting. As far as the type of hosting you need, cheap web hosting should do just fine. At least in the beginning, I doubt you will need anything else, and there’s no need to spend more money than necessary.

Cheap web hosting will cost you about $5 per month, and a good domain will run $10/year. Other than that, you shouldn’t really have any other expenses. If you choose to use WordPress or another free CMS, you can learn the ropes pretty quickly, and be able to get a blog up pretty quickly. Once the initial setup is done, posting is a breeze with the built-in poster. All you really have to do is type in the content and press publish!

If after a while you notice that cheap web hosting just isn’t cutting it anymore, you may have to upgrade to a better plan. I recommend a VPS, or virtual private server. I recommend them because they are less expensive than dedicated servers, but still do pretty much the same thing (with smaller limits). I really doubt you will ever need a dedicated server for just a simple blog, even if you do get a lot of traffic. In fact, most blogs out there will never even need an upgrade, and will do just fine on cheap web hosting. I encourage you to just watch the limits of your hosting, and make sure to upgrade if you’re nearing them.

If you’ve been a webmaster for a while now, you probably know that traffic generation is one of the hardest, and most important things you will have to do. After all, a website that nobody sees is rather pointless, and you’re never going to make any money without a steady stream of traffic. If you’re wondering about ways to generate traffic, read on.

Search engine optimization, or SEO, should be your main priority. However, you should know now that SEO is not a quick way to generate traffic – it’s a long, drawn-out process. It is, however, completely worth the time if done correctly. If you learn the ropes of SEO, and start putting in daily work on your sites, you will soon have a steady, lasting stream of traffic that will never slow as long as you keep working. With search engine optimization, even goals as high as 1000 visitors per day are not unrealistic. All you need to do search engine optimization is a site with real hosting (cheap web hosting at least), some knowledge of SEO principles, and a few minutes of time each day to work.

If you’re looking for some quicker traffic, attempting to go viral is probably your best bet. This is definitelly not a guaranteed traffic generation method, but if it works, you can find yourself literally swimming in traffic. In fact, going viral can sometimes go bad, especially if you’re on cheap web hosting, as shared hosting can only handle a limited amount of traffic at a time. Basically, to attempt a viral campaign, you’ll have to come up with something interesting that people will spread around, to their friends and to bookmarking sites like Digg. It has to be extremely odd, entertaining, or noteworthy, and obviously it must be in your niche.
