The term “green energy” is everywhere these days. People everywhere are doing their part to help save the environment. Not only are individuals working to protect the environment, but also all the major industries throughout the world are doing what they can to benefit the environment. Now you can find cheap web hosting companies that have started to utilize green energy technology.

While there are many types of cheap web hosting services that use some type of green energy, the majority of these companies utilize economically friendly power sources. Web Servers require a tremendous amount of energy through electricity, and cooled environments are a must as well. So when a company decides to go green, they start to shift their focus toward renewable resources. Some of the renewable resources that cheap web hosting companies can focus on include wind, solar, biogas, and geothermal energy.

Many web hosting services can also purchase renewable energy certificates from other companies that use only natural methods of producing electricity. As you can imagine, there are many other ways to go green. Even though a company may offer cheap web hosting, their service can still be top notch and eco-friendly. The hosting provider can also operate in an office that is powered entirely by natural energy. They may even decide to make their office completely paperless.

In this day and age many eco-friendly products cost more than their wasteful counterparts. However, cheap web hosting services that are economically friendly can be found online with a little bit of research. Just like regular hosting providers they offer many different packages and it is simply a matter of deciding which one fits your specific needs. Green technology is extremely important for everyone on Earth, so it is nice to see that web-hosting providers are doing their part to help maintain a sustainable environment for everyone to live in.

Dedicated IP Web hosting is commonly referred to as static web hosting. This type of website hosting allows the site owner to have control of a personal IP address that is used strictly for server space. Fortunately many cheap web hosting services also offer dedicated IP hosting packages.

Cheap web hosting companies that offer dedicated IP hosting often cater to large businesses that do a lot of e-commerce. It is a good solution for e-commerce companies because it provides a high-level security that shared hosting servers cannot match. If you utilize dedicated IP hosting, your Spam filters are often more powerful and provide a lot more flexibility than shared hosting plans. If you choose a cheap web hosting service that offers dedicated IP hosting, you can receive a private SSL certificate as well as access to anonymous FTP.

With a secure IP address and dedicated IP Web hosting, the individual will have complete control over the administration, security, and content of their site. The great thing about discovering cheap web hosting packages that include dedicated IP hosting is that it can elevate your website in the search engine rankings. This is because Google gives more authority to websites that use dedicated IP hosting in general.

If you’re not planning to do a lot of business transactions online, then dedicated IP hosting may not be needed. Regardless though the added security is an element to seriously consider. If you take the time to compare cheap web hosting companies you’ll notice that the cost of dedicated IP hosting can be very little per month. If you plan on doing any type of search engine optimization or search engine marketing you should seriously consider dedicated IP hosting as well. Marketing your website online can be a very complex process and any advantage that you can get is surely worth a few extra dollars per month.

When companies offer free Web hosting, it garners a lot of attention. The problem with the free web hosting services is that you have very little control over your website. Often times these hosting services will experience significant downtimes that will take your website off-line.

The bottom line is that you get what you pay for, and with a little research, you can find a cheap web hosting solution to fit your needs. You should look for a cheap web hosting company that does not require you to display their ads on your website. Sometimes cheap web hosting companies will force you to display their ads that are not related to your own websites topic, and this can be very distracting to your readers. Not only are these a distraction, they can actually be offensive to some viewers.

Just because you choose a cheap web hosting service does not mean that you need to put up with annoying banner ads and distracting pop-ups. There are many high-quality and affordable web-hosting companies that rarely experience downtime as well. There is nothing worse than sending someone to your web address only to have them contact you and tell you that your website is currently not available.

Another problem with free Web hosting services is that their support staff is often unavailable or simply inadequate. Once again, as the saying goes: “you get what you pay for”. When you choose to pay a small monthly fee to your desired web hosting company, you can rest easy at night knowing that a knowledgeable support team will be there to help you should a problem arise. In order to save yourself from future headaches and annoyances, you should listen to the experienced webmasters that recommend finding a cheap web hosting company that offers a variety of services and a great support team.

There are thousands of hosting companies out there. Some are unreliable and scam often, some are reliable but too expensive, and some are just in between – right in the sweet spot. If you are currently looking for some cheap web hosting, check out my recommendations:

JustHost

JustHost is a great all around hosting company. They provide quality shared hosting which starts at around $3.95 per month. Unlike many cheap web hosting companies, JustHost never charges ridiculous fees. Many hosts offer very cheap rates, but they nail you with hidden fees. JustHost has very reasonable rates, and in my long experience with them, I have never had a problem with customer service. Their servers rarely go down, and even when they do they are back up within minutes.

IX Web Hosting

IX web hosting is another great cheap web hosting company. Their rates for shared hosting start at $3.95 as well. Though they are slightly less popular than JustHost, I have had great experience with them. Many of their plans offer unlimited storage and bandwidth, and some even offer the ability to register a domain for free!

HostMonster

HostMonster is, in my opinion, one of the best hosts out there. Their plans are slightly higher than other cheap web hosting companies, but their superior customer service and policies make up for the difference. HostMonster is known around the web as one of the foremost in customer service. If you ever have  a problem with HostMonster, which is unlikely to begin with, you can contact them. Their support team is highly skilled and LIGHTNING quick. I’ve only had to contact them once, and I received a detailed response within hours. HostMonster shared hosting plans start at about $5.95 per month – just a bit higher than other hosts.

Many people ask whether they need dedicated hosting or not. 99.99% of the time, they do not. Cheap web hosting on shared servers does just fine for the vast majority of people, so don’t worry about it. For now, just purchase a cheap hosting plan, and if in the end you want or need your own server, you can always get one.

For those who don’t know what dedicated hosting is, it is really simple actually. Dedicated hosting is where you have your own server, and ONLY your site files go on it. You are free to use all the bandwidth the site can handle and you are rarely limited by site storage. Dedicated hosting is much more expensive than cheap web hosting, and for the majority of people, it’s pointless.

The only time you would really need a dedicated server is if you are unable or unwilling to backup your files, or if you have a gigantic amount of files and visitors. If you have a huge site that gets more than a few thousand visitors per day, then yeah, a dedicated server might be a good idea. If not, cheap web hosting will do just the trick.

Many people who use PPC marketing prefer dedicated servers to cheap web hosting shared accounts, because they don’t like the bandwidth limits that some hosts impose. Many web hosts will put a limit on how many times your site can be used daily. It’s usually in the high thousands, but still, some people who are running high-volume advertising campaigns have been screwed over in the past, because halfway through the campaign, their site goes down and the rest of the visitors see a blank page. So if you plan to drive some serious traffic to your site, you may want to ditch the cheap web hosting and go for a server.

I have made this guide to help new webmasters purchase hosting and set up their sites. It is not hard, but many people make it hard on themselves by adding extra steps. Simply follow this guide, and you will be set up in no time!

1. Buy Cheap Web Hosting

If you are new, you won’t need a large hosting plan, so cheap web hosting will do just fine. All you need to do is select the company with good rates and a good reputation, and purchase hosting. All of the cheap web hosting companies found on this site are very reliable, and all have very affordable rates. I recommend looking through our recommendations here.

2. Set Up MySQL/Domains

Once you have purchased a cheap web hosting plan and have it all set up, it is time to set up your MySQL databases, as well as add sub-domains and add-on domains, assuming you have them. This can all be done through your host’s interface. Most hosts use cPanel, so we are going to go with that. Simply go to yoursite.com/cpanel and follow the instructions. It is really quite simple.

3. Get an FTP Client

An FTP client is a software that is used to transfer files from your hard drive to your web server. All you need to do is download FileZilla (just Google “FileZilla”), and get going.

4. Upload Files

From here, you will use your FTP client to upload website files to your cheap web hosting account. The way you do this varies depending on your site and host, but usually you can create a “public.html” file and upload the files to there. This will make the files appear in the root of your domain, so yoursite.com/ will show whatever you upload to the public.html folder.

Choosing a host is not a huge decision, but it can be an important one. Cheap web hosting companies provide great plans at miniscule prices, so you should definitely look for a host with cheap rates. However, you don’t want to go TOO cheap. Anything less than $3/month is probably too cheap.

You should first look at price. Cheap web hosting ranges from $3-$6 per month, and there are more expensive and cheaper plans out there. The $3-$5/month range is generally good to start out in. Plans in this range are generally reliable, but they are still very cheap. Anything below this may not be reliable, and anything above it is too expensive.

You should also look through a hosts Terms of Service before signing up. Look out for anything that doesn’t seem right. There are a lot of people out there who would like to scam you, and if you don’t read through the terms you will be at blame. If the company puts something in their ToS, it is legal, regardless of what you think. So, be sure to read over the terms very carefully. You should also see if they allow refunds or not. Obviously you should look for a cheap web hosting company that offers refunds, just in case something goes wrong, you need to upgrade, etc. Most companies will give you a partial refund totaling the amount of time left on your plan.

Also look at the maximum bandwidth and storage space. For most this is not a problem, but for webmasters with larger sites may need to worry about this. Be sure your site will fit on the server, and make sure you won’t use too much bandwidth. If you go over your limit companies will usually charge you massive amounts as a fee.

If you are a newbie in the website world, you are probably debating between getting cheap web hosting, or getting free web hosting. Both have their advantages, but personally I would recommend a paid plan. If you plan on having any level of professionalism, you really need a real hosting plan.

Free web hosting is nice because, obviously, it’s free. However, almost all free hosting is ad-supported, which means the host will display ads on your site in order to pay for the hosting they give away free. This is okay if you don’t plan on monetizing your site, but if you want to earn money from your site, having other peoples’ ads will greatly take away from your own earnings.

On top of that, free web hosting is rarely reliable. It goes down often, and sometimes if it crashes you can lose all your site files, causing you to have to start over. Cheap web hosting plans rarely go down, and they are much more reliable overall. Both methods have their own merits, but if you can afford it, definitely go with cheap web hosting.

Besides, it’s not like cheap web hosting is expensive! You can find plans for as little as $3 per month – a miniscule cost compared to the benefit it will bring you and your site. That tiny $3 difference brings a huge change, and it is well worth it. Think about it – $3 a month is only $36 per year. That is the cost of a single meal out with the family! If you really cannot spare that much, then go with a free host. If you have a few dollars to spare, spring for a real plan. You will thank me later, believe me!

With so many hosts out there, it can be hard to tell what the typical price is for hosting. It definitally varies, and each and every host has their own idea of what cheap web hosting is. For some companies, $10/month is cheap. For some, $5/month is cheap. For others, $3/month is cheap. It really varies, and finding a true average would be impossible without days of research.

However, I believe it is safe to say that the average cost of hosting is around $5/month or $60/year. Keep in mind that I am talking about the BASIC packages. So the LOWEST price should be around $5. Anything much higher than that is a rip-off, and anything much lower than that might not be reliable.

There are many $1, $2, and $3/month cheap web hosting companies, but many aren’t reliable. Personally I would never trust a company that offers $1 or $2/month hosting. They have horrible servers, have bad regulations, or have hidden fees that will nail you.  Either way, I wouldn’t trust a company that can afford to sell hosting packages for less than $2 per month.

I’d say $3/month or more is a good figure to go off of. There are plenty of hosts who offer $3/month hosting, and even more that offer cheap web hosting for about $4/month. These companies are generally much more reliable than the fly by night type companies who often run with clients’ money. Also, a company who charges more for cheap web hosting usually has better servers, so you can expect increased uptime, fast loading, etc.

If you’re not worried about money and don’t want cheap web hosting, I would go with a dedicated server. That way, you never have to worry about downtime, limits, etc. Also, with a large dedicated server, you can sell portions of it to other people.

There are several thousand hosting companies out there, and most claim to offer cheap web hosting. However, the vast majority of these sites have a very skewed version of what “cheap” is. Most of the larger companies have decent prices, but the true cheap web hosting companies are the smaller corporations. Below you will find a list of some of the more popular hosts, and their monthly fees.

#1. GoDaddy
GoDaddy is most likely the #1 hosting company around as far as volume. GoDaddy has very good customer support, quick refunds, and quality servers. Unfortunately, they’re not exactly cheap. Their “cheap” web hosting packages start at about $60 per year – much higher than average.

#2. HostGator
HostGator is another large hosting company. Their plans start at about $5/month or $60 per year. However, they offer a number of extra features, such as a free site builder, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and much more. Overall HostGator is an excellent company to host with.

#3. BlueHost
BlueHost boasts an impressive figure of more than 800,000 domains hosted. That doesn’t necessarily mean 800,000 clients, but it is still quite impressive. BlueHost has won a number of awards, and has been the favorite of many for several years. However, they aren’t so good on the cheap web hosting front. Their plans start at about $7/month or $84/year.

Other cheap web hosting companies are around, and if you are looking to save some money I suggest looking around this site. We have listed a whole bunch of websites that you can use to host your sites, all of which are very cheap. The above hosts are for people who aren’t really worried about money, and would rather just go with the most reliable hosting package. Either way is completely understandable, and the choice is up to you.
